Log In or Join for free Home > Forums > Motoring > Citroen > citroen zx gearbox issue Send to a friend citroen zx gearbox issue Messages 1 to 5 of 5. citroen zx gearbox issue 16 November 2006, 8:53 PM kr78 Joined 18 Mar 2005 9 posts i have a citroen zx furio 1996 1.8i with a petrol engine,i need a gearbox and am finding it difficult to locate one as i live in cornwall and there are few breakers about.if anyone can help i need to know if there are any alternatives that will fit my engine,i have been told that the zx turbo diesel box may fit(bit dubious about that one!!)and the peugeot 306 box is the same as they are built around the same chassis and mechanically identical- is this true? Discussion Archived citroen zx gearbox issue 18 November 2006, 1:00 PM thanuttiscotsman Joined 16 Nov 2006 53 posts hi there, citro and pug engines are the same that is true! they share many parts its just the body that is different. if you contact kent autobrakers they will prolly have the box and can have it delivered to your door. alternativly go to http://www.bx16valve.co.uk/forum and put up a post in the technical area and one of the guys there will be able to give you a full list of compatable boxes.cheers rossco Discussion Archived citroen zx gearbox issue 23 November 2006, 7:32 PM dsw Joined 23 Nov 2006 9 posts yo a gearbox from a 306 1.8 i 8 valve will bolt straight on a box from a 405 1.8 8v will bolt straight on 205 boxes will fit but only the 1.6 and 1.9 petrol ideally citroen xsara 1.8 8valve will also -there is loads to choose from citroen specialist in portreath are very helpful and in yellow pages you should be able to get a box pretty much in any yard around the st.austell - mid cornwall area no probs Discussion Archived citroen zx gearbox issue 23 November 2006, 10:59 PM Edited by L.B. 23 November 2006, 11:00 PM L.B. Joined 5 Dec 2005 3310 posts If this is the 8 valve petrol engine then yeah the diesel box will actually fit but it will have different ratios to your petrol one.Other cars you can try though are pug 306,405, citroen xantia, with the 8 valve petrol engine.I always found that once a car gets to a certain age the ratios dont matter much if the box fits and you can get it cheap then you've got a working car again cheap. ___________________ THERE'S NO REPLACEMENT FOR DISPLACEMENT !
