Peugeot 106 Saxo 1.5D MkI Saxo VTR MkIII The Citroën Saxo is a supermini produced by the French manufacturer Citroën (PSA) from 1996 to 2003. It was also sold in Japan as the Citroën Chanson. It shares many engine and body parts with the Peugeot 106 (which itself was a development of the Citroën AX), the major difference being interiors and body panels. It was replaced by the Citroën C2 in the autumn of 2003. Contents 1 Engines and performance

6 References [edit] Engines and performance
All engines were from the PSA TU engine series that powered the Peugeot 205 from 1988 and the Citroën AX, and had their roots before that with the OHC PSA X engine various other PSA cars used, such as the Citroën Visa, Peugeot 104 and early Peugeot 205. The range included five petrol engines and one diesel engine, all naturally aspirated.
Although the power outputs seem low in modern terms, even the range-topping VTS had a kerb weight of just 965 kg (2,127 lb), giving all models quite a 'nippy' feel around town.
The 1.0 was however quite underpowered, although the 1.1 was much better, since it was actually nearly 200 cc larger, and had nearly 30% more torque.
There were 3 sport models of the Saxo: The Westcoast, later replaced by the Furio which featured a 1.4I 8V 55 kW (75PS/74BHP) engine with a top speed of 175 km/h (109 mph), and a 0-62.5 mph (0–100 km/h) time of 11.2 seconds.
The VTR MK1 (1997–1999) featured a 1.6I 8V 66 kW (90PS/89BHP) engine with a top speed of 187 km/h (116 mph) and a 0-62.5 mph (0–100 km/h) time of 10.0 seconds. The VTR MK2 (1999–2003) featured a 1.6I 8V 72 kW (98PS/97BHP) engine with a top speed of 193 km/h (120 mph) and a 0-62.5 mph (0–100 km/h) time of 9.4 seconds.
The VTS 16V featured a 1.6I 88 kW (120PS/118BHP) engine with a top speed of 205 km/h (127 mph), and a 0-60 mph time of 7.8 seconds. The VTS MK1 (1997–1999) and MK2 (1999–2003) shared the same performance. These models included 247 mm (9.7 in) vented front brake discs, with the VTR and VTS also having rear brake discs (solid 247 mm (9.7 in) discs). Also, a different style of control arms and struts was used for the suspension. The VTS had a 22 mm (0.9 in) master brake cylinder, and the VTR and Westcoast/Furio had a 19 mm (0.7 in). The VTS had a 19 mm (0.7 in) front anti-roll bar and 22 mm (0.9 in) rear anti-roll bar, while the VTR and Westcoast/Furio had a 19 mm (0.7 in) front and 21 mm (0.8 in) or sometimes 19 mm (0.7 in) rear anti-roll bar.
In addition, all the sports models featured a different bodykit to the other models, commonly known as the "VT" bodykit.
In 1997 the Saxo's 3 Speed Automatic Gearbox was combined with the 1.6i 8V 88 kW (90PS/89BHP) engine which was available on the Saxo SX and VSX. Then, in late 1997, the 1.6i automatic was replaced with a 1.4i 55 kW (75PS/74BHP) engine. The 1.6i was more powerful with a top speed of 176 km/h (109MPH) compared with the 1.4's top speed of 103 mph (166 km/h).
Citroën carried on using the 1.4i engine on the Facelift Saxo Automatic in 1999. Due to the C3 having a 1.4i Automatic Gear Box the Saxo Automatic came to an end in March 2002, whilst the manual models were still sold right up to the end of 2003. 1.0 L (954 cc) TU9 I4, 50 PS (49 hp/36 kW) and 54 ft·lbf (73 N·m) 1.1 L (1124 cc) TU1 I4, 60 PS (59 hp/44 kW) and 69 ft·lbf (89 N·m) 1.4 L (1360 cc) TU3 I4, 75 PS (74 hp/55 kW) and 89 ft·lbf (121 N·m) 1.5 L (1527 cc) TUD5 diesel I4, 58 PS (57 hp/42 kW) and 86 ft·lbf (117 N·m) 1.6 L (1587 cc) TU5 I4, 90 PS (89 hp/66 kW) and 95 ft·lbf (135 N·m) 1.6 L (1587 cc) TU5 I4, 96 PS (98 hp/70 kW) and 97 ft·lbf (135 N·m) (Later VTR Models) 1.6 L (1587 cc) TU5 I4, 120 PS (118 hp/88 kW) and 107 ft·lbf (145 N·m) [edit] Interior and equipment
The equipment list was generally sparse, with budget models having drivers air bag, seat belt pre-tensioners, cassette player, heated rear screen and tinted windows, and early mk1's with keypad immobilisers and a clock in place of a tachometer and 3 stud wheels, much like the AX. Further up the list sunroofs, PAS, Electric windows, ultrasonic alarm, passenger airbag, CD player, tachometer, front fog lights, bodykits, colour coded mirror caps and alloy wheels were added, to name a few.
The 1.6L VTR and VTS Saxo's were the best equipped, with both gaining rear disc brakes as opposed to drum brakes, and ABS as an optional extra on the VTR and standard on the VTS.
Few special models were released throughout the Saxo's life, most notably the "Open Scandal", a Saxo with a full length sliding canvas roof. Other special editions added certain extra's to the lower end model, such as sunroofs or PAS. Notable models are the Westcoast up to 1999 and the Furio to 2003, as they incorporated the standard Saxo bodykit found on the VTR and VTS with a more insurance friendly 1.4L engine.
Air-conditioning was never an option on right-hand-drive Saxo's because the blower motor was mounted in the bulk-head on the drivers side. As a result, there was insufficient space available to accommodate the evaporator, except by first ducting the air flow to the passenger side and then at the expense of the glove-box. Although an after-market kit was available that did exactly this, the resultant pressure loss made the system noisy and ineffective. The blower motor could also not be easily relocated, since the windscreen wiper motor was mounted in the passenger side space.
As with many other small cars of the time, the standard stereo system included 5.25" drivers mounted low in the front doors and 4" drivers mounted in the rear quarter panels. This set-up could be easily improved upon by mounting separate tweeters in the A-panel trims, similar to many VW models of the time. The very thin door cards and metalwork did however leave the system very 'thin' sounding, with very poor output in the upper-bass ranges.
[edit] Facelift
The Saxo received a style makeover at the start of the year 2000, commonly branded as a MK2, with the major differences being more modern styled headlights, bonnets and grilles to replace the square style on the MK1 and Multipoint injection replacing the single point on the 1.1L engines.
PAS became standard on all but the very basic models. More subtle changes were alterations to the rear lights (the indicator sections are more "white") and the engine control unit moved from a single plug to 3 plugs. The old 3 stud wheel layout was also dropped.
There was also a minor facelift during the MK1 phase of the cars production in line with the then current releases by Citroen, moving towards a rounder look.
By 2003, some buyers were more attracted to the spacious and practical five-door C3. However, the 1.6 VTR and VTS models remained popular. The Saxo finally finished production in late 2003 when the three-door C2 was launched. Its twin, the Peugeot 106, also ceased production at this time. By the end of the Saxo's production life its design was 7 years old and despite this few other mini-cars were as enjoyable to drive.
It also suffered poor performances along with its twin, the 106 in a 2000 EuroNCAP test, but then again so did more "respectable" cars of the same generation, such as the Polo.
[edit] Drag
The Saxo has a drag coefficient of 0.340.[1] In addition its frontal area is 1.83m2[1]. Giving it a CdA ft² just 6.66.
[edit] In popular culture The Saxo has featured prominently in the popular BBC3 series Gavin and Stacey. Gavin famously drives a Blue MK 1 VTR & MK 2 VTS to Barry Island from Billericay, Essex on numerous occasions during the series to visit his love interest Stacey.[2] [edit] References ^ a b Citroën Saxo 1.1i X technical specifications - Carfolio.com car specifications pages

Donato Coco Restyled C4 Rear of a Citroën C4 coupé The Citroën C4 is a small family car produced by French automaker Citroën since autumn 2004. The C4 was designed to be the successor to the Citroën Xsara. It is mechanically similar to the Peugeot 308, which was launched in 2007. A revised version with new front end, reverse light and dashboard revisions was launched for the 2008/09 model year. In January 2010 it was announced that the Coupe version was to be discontinued in favour of the new Citroën DS4. The C4 came in 2nd place in the 2005 European Car of the Year awards. [edit] Versions
Available body styles include three-door coupé / hatchback and five-door hatchback, plus a saloon version in certain markets. The saloon version is manufactured in Argentina, where it is sold alongside the three-door version; it is exported from there to Brazil and Hungary as the C4 Pallas, to Spain as the C4 Berline and to Greece as the C4 Sedan. A four-door saloon version is also built and sold in China as the Citroën C-Triomphe.
A seven-seater compact MPV version, the Grand C4 Picasso, was introduced in 2006, while a five-seater called the C4 Picasso was introduced in 2007.

The motoring press has described it as a return to the more bold and unconventional design approach for which Citroën was famed before the 1990s, when Citroën designs became much more conservative (ZX, Saxo). The distinctive exterior styling of the C4 is the work of Donato Coco. The current C4 is not the first Citroën to bear this designation; Citroën previously produced a C4 in 1928. The quirky rear-end styling of the three-door C4 brought back many memories of the 1995 Mazda 323 C BA three-door and the Early Honda CRX.
[edit] Technology
A major selling-point of the C4 is its extensive use of technology. For example, the car features the "Lane Departure Warning System" (only in the top-of-the-range "Exclusive" model), which alerts the driver if he or she crosses a road marking without using the turn signals; directional headlights; perfume dispenser integrated into the ventilation system; translucent dashboard, transparent glass roof; ESP (Electronic Stability Program), and a fixed steering wheel hub which lets the driver operate several functions of the car without removing his or her hands from the wheel. The fixed hub also allows for the first production use of a "shaped" driver airbag. Because the hub maintains a constant position, the airbag can be optimally shaped to spread the load across the greatest possible area of the driver's body in a collision, thus reducing the chances of serious injury. In addition, the car features an innovative centrally mounted translucent LCD speedometer display that remains clearly visible in all lighting conditions.
Surprisingly, given the emphasis put on technology, the car's In-Car Entertainment, while well integrated into the car's information system via CAN Bus, is not DAB ready. MP3 playback is supported by the entry level audio system and high-end audio with double layer sound insulated windows and integrated navigation system is available as extra. In September 2007, a USB box accessory[5] (Ref: 9702.EZ) was released to enable full iPod connectivity with the standard RD4 radio.
The C4 does not feature Citroën's hydraulic suspension, which is reserved for higher class models, such as the C5 and C6. The Picasso version can get a pneumatic rear suspension.
Underneath, the C4 uses an identical mechanical design to the contemporary Peugeot 307. Interestingly, its underpinnings date back to the 1991 Citroen ZX, although it includes much more electronic technology than that and the Xsara that was produced between the ZX's demise and the C4's launch.

(May 2008) Citroën C4 Coupé VTR The car's advanced technology was the focus of a well-known television advertising campaign showing the car transforming into a giant dancing robot, accompanied by the song "Jacques Your Body (Make Me Sweat)" by Les Rythmes Digitales. At the end of the sequence, the robot transforms back into a car, over the slogan "Alive With Technology." The dance moves were based on the concept of a Transformers break dance routine, developed from moves recorded by the agents from Justin Timberlake's choreographer Marty Kudelka. The advertisement was produced by a music group from Canada, and the scenery was in downtown Vancouver, yet the car is not available in North America.[6] The entire sequence and scenery were digitally created; Apple Shake was used to digitally generate the visual effects. This commercial has since been credited to District 9 director Neill Blomkamp.[7]
The follow-up ad features a similar transformer robot ice-skating at high speed across a frozen lake, dodging around obstacles and executing a hockey stop in front of a group of engineers before transforming back into a car. It features the song "Walking Away (Tocadisco Remix)" by The Egg.
These two TV ads are available for viewing or downloading from the UK Citroën C4 website.
The ad currently broadcasting shows a third transformer robot sprinting along a road, changing to car form and back to robot form during the run. It is not on the Citroën C4 website yet.
Another ad featuring yet another transforming robot is currently being aired in Europe, for the revamped C4. The robot struts through town showing off, accompanied by a cover version of the Bee Gees song Stayin' Alive by MC Lita.
A parody of the advertisement features a Citroën 2CV attempting to transform in the same manner, and falling apart quite spectacularly in the process. The parody features the slogan "Zero Technology," a reference to the 2CV's infamously spartan design.
In July 2007, filming began in São Paulo (Brazil) for a commercial for South America, starring North American actor Kiefer Sutherland and Argentine actress Araceli González.[8] One month early, a controversial advertisement announcing the collision of an asteroid with planet Earth, giving the impression of real news, was used in Brazil to promote the release of C4 Pallas, and there is an asteroid named 2 Pallas.
A video game, Citroën C4 Robot was developed by Istanbul-based developer 2GEN Studio and released on April 21, 2008. It is a free racing advergame in which the player can either create an account and try to beat other player’s record, or can play offline themselves.[9]

Main article: Citroën C4 WRC Dani Sordo driving a C4 WRC at the 2008 Rally Catalunya. A much-anticipated C4 World Rally Car, intended to replace the multiple World Rally Championship-winning Citroën Xsara WRC, was first sighted in 2004 with testing duties assigned to double world rally champion Carlos Sainz. Having once been earmarked for a late 2005 competitive debut, the decision by the controlling PSA Group to withdraw both Citroën and stablemates Peugeot from works participation at the end of the 2005 season led to the momentary abandonment of the project.
Since then, however, the marque etched in a comeback for the 2007 season during which a revived C4 WRC was scheduled for its official debut, with the then-thrice world champion Sébastien Loeb as the official first driver, and Dani Sordo, the 2005 Junior World Rally Champion, later confirmed alongside him after an impressive 2006 season for the Spaniard. In its official debut, at the 2007 Monte Carlo Rally, the two C4 WRCs finished 1-2, with Loeb winning ahead of Sordo. Loeb has subsequently secured the 2007, 2008, and 2009 drivers' titles, with Citroën claiming the 2008 and 2009 manufacturers' championships.
In the 2009 season, Citroën's satellite team Citroën Junior Team ran a C4 WRC for Evgeny Novikov, Conrad Rautenbach and the 2008 junior world champion Sébastien Ogier. For the 2010 season, the team will be running a C4 WRC for Ogier and the 2007 Formula One world champion Kimi Räikkönen. The 2003 world rally champion Petter Solberg competes in a C4 WRC for his private team.
Citroën also unveiled a hybrid concept WRC car at the 2008 Paris Motorshow. The Citroën C4 WRC Hymotion4 uses a KERS system similar to that in the Peugeot 908 HY.[10]
[edit] Awards
The C4 won the 2006 World Car Design of the Year.
The C4 WRC won the 2008 & 2009 Autosport Rally Car of the Year.
The second generation C4 (2010 onwards) was awarded a Euro NCAP Advanced Award for its eTouch Emergency & Assistance System.[11]

Jean-Pierre Ploué The Citroën C3 is a supermini car equipped with a range of inline-4 engines that has been produced by the French automaker Citroën since 2002. It was designed by Donato Coco and Jean-Pierre Ploué, previously known for designing the first generation Renault Twingo; the former has been the head of the Citroën design team since 1999. A mini MPV version of the C3 was announced in July 2008, called C3 Picasso, unveiled at the Mondial de l'Automobile 2008 and went on sale in early 2009 across Europe. 2002-2009 Citroën C3 HDi Citroen C3 XTR [edit] Overview
The C3 was available with 1.1, 1.4 and 1.6 L petrol engines, and 1.4 and 1.6 L HDi engines. All models came as standard with a five-speed manual transmission or an optional semi-manual with paddle-shifters, except for the Stop & Start model, which came with Citroën's SensoDrive gearbox — a five-speed semi-automatic transmission with manual and automatic modes. The SX model was the only version that has the option of a four-speed fully-automatic transmission.
In accordance with PSA Group policy, the C3's chassis was used for the Peugeot 1007 and the Peugeot 207. Many components of the C3 are the same as those of the Peugeot 206.

The rear of the car was also given redesigned light clusters with crystal coloured mid-sections. The passenger compartment was also enhanced with the fitting of a restyled dashboard with high-quality finish, as well as a newer, more modern instrument cluster making the driver information easier to read. The addition of light metallic grey embellishers around the central section of the fascia and air vents contributed to the updated interior, as did the completely re-designed front and rear door panels and trims. The steering was also improved so that it weights up with speed. Citroën also added a new 1.6 L 16-valve HDi diesel engine to the range, rated at 110 bhp (82 kW; 110 PS). The Pluriel also received similar interior alterations but was otherwise unchanged.
[edit] Technology
Some versions of the C3 feature a "Stop & Start" system that can automatically cut the engine when not needed to save fuel, such as in traffic, and restart it briskly to move on again. Similar technology appeared in the 1980s Volkswagen Polo "Formel E" and the Volkswagen Golf Mk III "Ecomatic".

It was originally offered with a choice of a 1.4 or a 1.6 L petrol engine, and a 1.4 L[1] diesel engine. The 1.6 L petrol came fitted, as standard, with a semi-automatic gearbox. The Pluriel was withdrawn in early 2010.
[edit] C3 Picasso Citroën C3 Picasso at the 2008 Paris Motor Show At the 2008 Paris Motor Show, Citroën introduced the C3 Picasso; a mini-MPV version of the C3, designed to compete with the Opel/Vauxhall Meriva and the Fiat Idea. It is currently built in Slovakia. It was launched for the UK market on 9 April 2009.
It features an interior with split-fold-flat rear seats, that also slide independently over 150 mm (5.9 in). It also has a 500 L boot.
The C3 Picasso is available in three trim levels- the VT, VTR+ and Exclusive. All versions come with a five-speed manual gearbox, although a semi-automatic and a six speed manual version are expected in 2011, along with a new eco-friendly and economical Stop/Start system, which Citroën claims to reduce CO2 emissions significantly. From launch, two petrol and two diesel engine choices were available.
It was named Top Gear magazine's Family Car of the Year and also won What Diesel? MPV of the Year.
In August 2009, Citroën released a 90th Birthday Limited Edition C3 Picasso, to commemorate 90 years of Citroën. In the UK, it was limited to 150 examples. [edit] Second generation (2009-present) Second generation Manufacturer

Featuring an evolutionary design with a cutting-edge Panoramic Windscreen, similar to that on the larger C4 Picasso and Vauxhall Astra Sport Hatch, the new C3 builds on the curvy profile of the previous model. Citroën also announced a new range of technologically advanced small petrol engines with low emissions, as well as new diesel engines, all with CO2 emissions of under 120 g/km, plus an "Airdream+" model with 99 g/km using a new 1.6 HDI 90 bhp (67 kW; 91 PS) engine. The New C3 was presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2009. It was launched in November 2009, as a 2010 model.
