The DS Inside concept car will make its public debut at next month’s Geneva motor show as a forerunner to a production version to be launched at the 2009 Frankfurt motor show towards the end of this year. The car, based on the same platform as the current C3, will be the first of three new Citroen DS cars, with C4 and C5-based versions to follow in 2011. European websites are speculating that up to six models are on the drawing board for release in the next three years. Local spokesman for Citroen, Edward Rowe, confirmed all three vehicles would come to Australia, with the DS3 likely to arrive in the middle of 2010. The new car line marks the revival of the legendary DS badge of the fifties and heralds an image revamp for the 90-year-old car maker. Rowe says the new car line is a response to changing customer preferences in the luxury market, where people are downsizing to smaller, more efficient vehicles, but still want the gadgets and the prestige badge. The DS is also designed to head off competition from luxury car markers who have move downmarket in the pursuit of sales volume. BMW, Audi and Alfa Romeo all have small cars either on the drawing board or in production. BMW is looking at a city car to sit beneath its current Mini Cooper, while Audi has the A1 and Alfa Romeo the MiTo. While the DS concept car is a three-door, the volume-selling production version will be a five-door powered by diesel, petrol and eventually hybrid engines. Engine choices will include a 1.4-litre diesel and the 1.4 litre turbo engine developed in conjunction with BMW that powers the Mini Cooper S. Citroen is planning to have a hybrid version of every car in its range by 2015, so an alternative engine is likely to power the DS3 sooner rather than later. The company’s stop-start engine technology and robotised manual transmission will also cut fuel consumption. The original DS, launched in 1955, was a technological tour de force and widely regarded as one of the classic luxury cars. It was recently voted the most beautiful car of all time by a panel of prominent designers. The concept heralds the beginning of a re-branding exercise for Citroen, which includes a redesigned badge and a new look for its dealerships. The original DS was meant to be a play on the French word for goddess, but Citroen says the new badge stands for “Different Spirit”. Prices have not yet been announced but expect a sizeable premium over its poorer cousin, the C3. At the time of writing, we're yet to drive the car with its revised engines (all but one of which are diesel-powered), but past experience suggests that the 2.0 HDi diesel engine will be the pick of the range. However, the low running costs of the 1.6-litre units are certainly attractive. In terms of equipment, entry-level VTR trim provides the basics, but it’s worth stepping up to VTR+ NAV to gain alloy wheels, electrically folding door mirrors and dual-zone climate control. Exclusive trim includes a different suspension system, electric front seat adjustment and laminated side glass, which makes the C5 even quieter. Peugeot 206+ - Forum Auto Moto On peut quand même s'interroger sur cette politique de PSA. pourquoi fabriquer une entrée de gamme en France, alors qu'il serait bien plus logique d'y produire le C3 Picasso par exemple, et d'envoyer les 206+ dans l'usine de Slovaquie. [...] La gamme de la 206+ ira jusqu'à 16000 euros, voire plus, donc on ne peut plus parler de low-cost, même si elle concurrencera certainement un peu les finitions hautes de la Sandero. [...] Pour la différence de prix avec la 207, elle sera assez importante puisque la 206+ démarrera à moins de 11000 euros, alors que la 207 démarre à 13000 euros, soit plus de 2000 euros de plus (sans compter que Peugeot sera sans doute assez généreux sur les rabais pour la 206+, comme c'est le cas avec la 206 actuellement).
