Overall Rating 36 Reviews For Citroen Xsara Picasso SX 2.0 HDi Guest 23rd Sep 2010 Reviewer rating: Guest's review has yet to be rated - Be the first! Report this review This 2L Citroen Xsara Picasso was a Dixons ex-dem car, ease of access onto the higher seating was a major bonus, time proved the car was capable of almost any task, being in SX trim I had little luxuries built in, armrests, tables etc. One minute it was a comfortable, roomy 5 seat limousine capable of holding motorway speeds all day without stress, next with seats out it was being loaded with a complete bathroom suite from Wickes [and the tailgate door shut]. It developed a major fault with the ERG valve within warranty but apart from having to change the drivers door central locking unit, nothing since, its been a truely reliable trooper. Typically the diesel engine is reluctant to fire in bitterly cold weather, common to almost all makes, as it spins too slow on the starter, but eventually it starts, if you are on snow the strong idle speed in lower gears will usually keep you moving without touching the throttle, the heater is very slow at warming the cabin but air con aids demisting. Fuel economy on the 2 litre is excellent nudging 60 mpg on a leisurely drive, although I have only just covered 30,000 miles in my ownership the dreadful conditions of Britain's roads has taken its toll on the suspension which now is getting a bit noisy also there is a lot of plasticy creaking developing in the cabin, I am in two minds whether to change cars or not, the Picasso owes me nothing, it is still a good reliable beast of burden, road tax is cheap at £115 pa, and it has sunk as low as it can in devaluation.
I would recommend this vehicle to anyone, it is perfect for a growing family, a DIYer, a taxi almost any application, and, as they are no longer in production there are bargains galore out there, just be sure its a diesel for cheap tax and good fuel returns.

Easy to park and goes well on all roads. The 2.0 HDI engine is a dream, so quiet for a diesel. Our car starts first time every time no matter how hot or cold the weather is. We live in Scotland so we need a reliable car like this. Perfect! The paint work is also first class. The paint is just as fresh and shiny now as it was nearly 4 years ago. The under seal is done to a very high standard too. The seats are very comfortable and the car is a dream to drive ... Report this review Brought my used Citroen Xsara Picasso used which was a 2001 2.0 sx hdi model, for a very reasonable price. Changed cars as I was looking for a family car which was bigger than my previous but didn't want a huge 'people carrier'. I was surprised to learn that this car was classed as one as it doesn't look huge from the outside and has a nice modern design. I had reservations as I didn't like the the idea of a family people carrier and didn't want a frumpy 'people carrier' but, I have been very pl ... Report this review About three or four years ago, after a while looking for cars, we turned our eyes, from the Toyota Avensis to the Citroen Xsara Picasso and it immediately struck us as a good car. It was large but still not large enough for high tax, the middle seat in the rear was an actual seat(!) and finally, the fact that it was a diesel. This large car offers plenty of legroom, a good seat pitch and great storage. It's a good car! - Get it! The handling is appalling, the trim is dire, the seats not fit for humans, the brakes are weak, it is like driving a Comma van of the 1970s. I have never been more disappointed in a vehicle. Why did I buy one then? I really do not know, I can only suggest that any prospective buyers should be aware that they are not buying a vehicle of quality, such as with the many Far Eastern marques. Report this review By far the cheapest, daftest-looking, economical and flexible car we've ever bought. Computerised instrumentation is excellent and 'van-type' driving position very helpful. Roadholding is much better than expected and always feels secure, though steering is a bit vague and imprecise. Offers tons for the money, though, and ours has been fairly reliable and servicing acceptable. We're buying another shortly for less than we paid first time around and going for the Exclusive this time. Report this review Boy do I feel privileged to own a Citroen Xsara Picasso! Apparently the dash panel display software has failed - the replacement of which was the bargain price of £650; coming with 1 years warranty, a smile, and a steep learning curve for the owner. How I wish I'd been more persistent with my complaints about the rattle/buzzing noise coming from my dash when it was still under warranty. Now Customer Services don't seem to care! Why Citroen only used the 90hp hdi engine when there was an 110bhp version avaliable is strange. I owned a Santia hdi 2.0ltr 90bhp and that was fine, but the Picasso is a much weightier car and I feel that sometimes, especially when overtaking, it feels like a uphill struggle. Also why Citroen put pictures of coke bottles over the door bins is funny? I am overall very pleased with the Picasso. No big faults so far and will be changing ... Request Brochure Test Drive Best Deals No, we're not doing a forgetful re-run of our earlier Xsara Picasso test. That was a petrol-engined steel roof model. This one is a nicely equipped SX common-rail turbo diesel, with just about the biggest sunroof in the business as a £450 addition to the price quoted below. But by all means refer to the other test too. There's no extra charge. A few hundred miles in it showed once again what a fine engine Citroen and Peugeot have at their disposal in the HDi - not just the more powerful 110bhp version, but also the 90bhp type as used here. It's remarkable how each engine seems to match the model it's fitted to. In this case, an extra 20bhp might be just too much for a high-set compact MPV with a fair amount of body lean when pressed. No wonder production of these HDi engines is being boosted from 7000 to 8000 per day, in a factory already working a seven-day week. In the Xsara Picasso, the 90bhp engine pulls strongly in mid range, and it's a languid cruiser at motorway speeds. Compared with some of its direct rivals, this is a remarkably quiet-running diesel, and in the test car you could still say that even with the sunroof fully open, a set-up in which some other current turbo diesels would have sounded, from the passenger cabin, like a Bren gun carrier. The sunroof. Hum. When Citroen says this is a full-length affair, it isn't kidding. It opens all the way back, to a line behind the rear seat passengers' heads. Of course, you can have it just partly open, if you want. Don't think steel, think vinyl, quite well insulated. And don't think conventional slide-back. The roof opens like a concertina, which is one reason for my hum. Unless you have it almost fully retracted, bits of it stick up, leaving open sides between the folds of the concertina. One look at the open roof makes you feel the cabin must be noisy and draughty at speed. But Citroen figured all that out in advance. There's a full-width permanent air deflector up front, which, helped by the line of the roof, wafts the airflow over the car instead of letting it buffet around inside. At motorway speeds, there's just a pleasant and airy, almost sports-car effect in the front seats. In the rear, the outside passengers hardly feel the wind. Where it's most noticeable is in the middle rear seat. When the roof is closed, it's a pretty snug fit, but - inevitably - the car is a bit noisier than a steel-roof model. You hear little rushes of air across the vinyl. And raindrops seem to be more noticeable, although, of course, they're hardly unobtrusive battering on a conventional roof. The front seats offer great side support, and a fine view ahead as well as all round. In the back, the three individual seats are higher and harder, and they don't have much side bolstering. You can't do much about that, of course, in a car whose rear seats are designed to fold flat. The middle rear seat can be moved a little forward of the others, and when you fold it down it turns into a cross between a picnic table and a worktop. It has a couple of cup holders, as well as one of the many ingenious little gadgets with which this car is festooned - a clip to hold papers and documents in place. A trip with some to-be-disposed-of household clobber showed what a very capacious load area Citroen has built into the Picasso. That isn't there at the expense of rear seat legroom. Like some of its class competitors, the car has aircraft-style fold-up trays behind the front seats. Unlike them, though, it has enough legroom so that your knees aren't pressed uncomfortably against the folded-down tables when the car is under way. The SX is the top specification Picasso. It comes with air-conditioning and the Multiplex-wired computer display plus all the handy stowage spaces, including a couple under the rear floor, and that ingenious detachable shopping trolley, the Modubox, stacked in the boot. But the car itself is a lot more than just a shopping trolley or holiday runabout. And with the HDi engine, I reckon this is the Picasso to pick.
