On first glance the car looks in stunning condition, the paintwork is really bright. However there are two areas that let it down cosmetically one is a smallish dent in the drivers door just below the window that can be seen in photos 3 & 4. Plus a scuff on the rear quarter that we have photographed seperately in pic 10. If the rest of the car was scruffy it wouldn`t matter but it`s a bit of a shame when the rest of the paintwork is so good. However blemishes like that can be fixed if desired by the new owner and this car`s selling point is how good it is mechanically. | The interior in lovely condition, way better than is usual for these, all the seats are plush and comfortable, there are no rip or tears and everything is really clean. It is well equipped with Aircon and C.D. Player. Steering Mounted Controls and Driver Information Computer. | These 2.0 HDi engines are always regarded as one of the best diesel engines around and they make these cars an absolute joy to drive any distance as they cruise effortlessly, but it`s the fuel economy that really sell them, you really do get an excellent return for your buck? These engines are so reliable they go on and on so with a service history like this ones it`s only just begun. | The only negatives I can find is that somehow the end of the key has been broken at some point but it works perfectly well in the ignition and the central locking works off the key not the remote! Also the driver`s window doesn`t go down although the motor is working so must of popped off it`s runner or something like that. | So to recap here we have an extremely well maintained 5 door family MPV to be supplied with an MOT until 31st August 2012! very reasonable) but yesterday it failed MOT. It would be of interest for somebody with mechanical knowledge and skills.I will try to describe the car to the best of my knowledge and abilities. Please keep in mind that my technical knowledge is rather limited. Therefore the description contains general observations and reflects the experience from owning and driving the vehicle.The good things about the car: very practical and safe for families with children – three full size individual rear seats with proper 3 point safety belts. The seats can be easily folded independently and/or taken out completely. The later turns the car into a small van giving you a space to transport large and bulky items. The front passenger air bag can be switched off by a button - allowing you to safely place there a child car seat;reliable - since I bought the car it has never failed to start, broken down or left me stranded;comfortable, easy to drive, with good visibility all around;very good fuel economy – with careful and defensive driving 55-60 mpg is easily achievable (please see photo showing average MPG on combined town and motorway driving);both exterior and interior in good clean condition considering age and mileage; tow bar and electrics fitted – not used in my ownership;old MOT is still valid until 15 March 2012 tyres are all good – rear ones almost newextensive service history – no expense has been spared to properly maintain the vehicle. There is a thick folder containing old MOT certificates and receipts. The previous owner has spent a fortune on yearly routine maintenance and repairs when needed. The same trend continued with me – in my ownership the following has been done: - cam belt kit and water pump on 189777 miles – not due for another 100000 miles; - crankshaft pulley and auxiliary belt on 190035; - clutch kit and guide bush on 192 947miles. - coil spring replaced – today (20.01.2012) All these repairs were done by reputable local garage and receipts are available. Things about the car you better know in advance:The car is in a good clean condition considering its age and mileage. It is a MOT failure and shows signs of aging. It is being "sold as seen" and no warranty is expressed or implied. All sales are final, with no returns accepted. Inspection –either independent or by you is possible if prior arrangements are made.It failed MOT on two points: Fractured coil spring – already replaced today at a cost of £127 (receipt available); Not working rear fog tell tale light on the dashboard – requires electrician or somebody with adequate knowledge. The cambelt was done at 97k and a brand new clutch was fitted by Citroen at the end of November (the clutch and labour have a 12 month guarantee!). The aircon works perfectly, as do all the electrics ie windows etc. All the dash board bulbs have just been replaced by Citroen when the clutch was fitted, one had gone but i had the rest replaced just incase..receipts to prove. | In November I had a TURBO TUNE MODULE fitted by Energy Tuning Ltd . This has increased the Bhp from the 90bhp standard by 25%! The module also gives improved fuel economy on what was already a very economical engine. The module has adjustable settings and can be turned off altogether..all settings, inc on/off operated at the flick of a switch! There is full history with the car, and I have just done the following work : Brand new LUK clutch, brand new timing belt (cambelt) with tensioners and water pump, fresh 5 year anti freeze, full service. Car has recently had new discs and pads fitted.Being the SX model, it has 4x electric windows, remote central locking (with 2 keys), power steering, air conditioning/climate control, 6 disc CD changer in boot, trip computer, front foglights, alloy wheels, ABS, front and side airbags, 3x 3point seatbelts in the rear, rear armrest.The car drives very well, smooth and powerful, returning an average of 45mpg (more on a long run)The reason for the low price is there is one minor issue with the car which I have not investigated, but due to lack of room I do not have the time. When the car is STONE COLD (ie. left overnight) the car runs a little rough on starting and smokes. This only lasts for a couple of minutes max until the engine has some heat in it, and then is fine. I must stress this is ONLY when left for a long period. It always starts even when cold with no problems. Once cleared there is no smoke from the car when driving. up a space in the garage and as we are off to the US to get married in about 8 weeks Id like to lock up the other cars while we are away.Bought this as I knew I was about to change jobs and get a company car. Faffed about looking at cheaper runarounds and then decided that as i liked my mk1 VTS so much and the prices were so low, I`d just get another.Found this on the xsara owners club forum and bought it. Then decided to strip it with the intention of getting it done quickly so I could have a few RWYB track days this year. What with the new house, job, impending nuptials and a whole other list of faff, this never really happened and she is in the "state" you see here!Right2002 Xsara VTS 2.0 16v56000 miles90% of interior removed:Rear seatsDoor cardsRoof liningSeat belts and runnersAll carpetsAirbagsGlovebox and unnecessary trimSound deadening from engine bay and under carpetsI wanted it stripped for banter and fun but also as it was to be my daily, I kept the electric windows, heater and stereo etc. HAd I have kept it as a track slag these would have gone. Rollcage and A/C removal would really be all you needed.Not sure how many pounds have been lost, but it certainly made a difference. Can honestly say that with the noise, lightness and the fact that you hear stones and water hitting the unsilenced metal everywhere, it honestly feels like a touring car! (albeit one that looks like this... )Couple of mods:K&N induction kit (probably the best sounding induction kit Ive had on any car)15" Team dynamics 1.2 alloys with 5mm spacers and 4x Toyo T1-R tyres (done about 3000 miles and have nearly all tread left)Momo steering wheel and bossDamage:Rear bumper unclipped on N/SDent on front O/S wingScrape on rear N/S quarterDent under N/S rear lightDrivers seat expertly repaired with gaffer tapeA cornocopia of scratches and battle scars.Engine light is and has always been on, apparently it is an 02 sensor, but I never bothered having it reset. My mechanic cleaned the sensor and Ive noticed no detriment. This throws a "pollution system fault" script on the screen, too.After the above warning, you get an "airbag" fault. This is because the airbags are in my garage.All damage adds "character"No damage is that bad and it passed its MOT with no advisories. When I bought it it had no service history but I checked the mileage with past MOTs and it tallies up. The day I bought it I had the cambelt, water pump and all tensioners replaced as I know these engines are prone to cambelt failure around 60k (this mileage varies depending on the story teller). Also replaced the handbrake cables. In essence guys, it is what it is and I am not here to say it is a concours condition car, far from it, but my lord is it fun. It grips like you would not believe and has such a surprising turn of speed, coupled with a great gearbox and probably the tightest turn in on any car Ive had to date. Many a night I have just pointed it at Essex and come back with it covered in mud, every country road feels like a rally stage.As another advantage, it gets 420 miles to a tank (around £70) on a run cruising at 65, give it beans and youll struggle to get the tank to return anthing under 320. Surprising economy, I always thought.It also makes a great van, brilliant for carting stuff to the dump etc - why would you care if it got scratched? It owes me around £1400, what with the cambelt work and the wheels/tyres, but it has got to be worth a grand surely? Currently SORNed, MOT until August 2012. Also included if you want are the original VTS alloy wheels (albeit with the worst tyres known to man - Arrowspeed? ) and the front and rear door panels.
