Then Genuine proper 8" wide Dimma wheels that bolt straight on without spacers so with fitting, painting, professionally tinted rear windows, alloy filler cap, lowering and ive replaced the interior to the much more sporty 2.0 16v VTS seats your looking at an overall outlay of over £10,000 Two children later its just sat there, it still needs the fuel filler cap extending and now needs a major service to get running again with stagnant fuel etc i cant be bothered, you`ll need to get the V5 aswell. No tax No MOT. Overall condition is it will also need a bit of paint work with a few chips here and there but you couldnt even buy the kit with wheels for what im looking for. All panel gaps are as they should be and the paint work appears original - no sign of touch ups or previous work. The paintwork really shines and the colour suits the shape of the vehicle very, very well. There are a few chips etc as you would expect with a used car, but no dents or scratches etc - overall the car looks great. The Interior is again very clean and in excellent condition, it`s obviously been looked after by it`s one and only keeper. The luggage trolley is still present in the boot, as is the parcel shelf and jack etc. The Air Con blows cold and all electrics work as they should. The only fault I could find was an inoperative rear wiper. Mechanically the car is in excellent condition and drives without issue. The 2 litre HDi engine has earned a strong reputation for high mileage reliability, combined with excellent economy. due to a change of series for 2012 I have needed to buy a classic Porsche. My Xsara is now up for sale and has never been near a track. Ideal first race car for a novice or would make an ideal developed entry-level racer for a more experienced driver.The Xsara VTS is a fantastic base for a race car build as it very light & rigid and as a great chassis with ideal weight distribution. It shares all its mechanical components with the legendary Peugeot 306 Rallye / GTi-6, with a couple of exceptions that make the Xsara even more suited to being converted into a race car. The Xsara carries a wider and more rigid rear beam axle making it even more stable and less flexible than the 306 in high speed cornering and also uses a tougher 5 speed gearbox rather than the more fragile and bulky 6 speed Peugeot unit. The 5 speed box is also smaller and lighter meaning the turning circle can also be better, which helps in low speed hairpins, etc.Super strong mechanical and a readily available (and inexpensive) new, used and modified parts supply make this a great choice for racing. The car itself has had only two owners from new and I bought it in October 2011 as a standard road car with a genuine 50,000 miles. It was the best possible Xsara to use and is also HPI clear and has never been in an accident. There are also loads of bills and history included. Upon purchase the mechanical were given a thorough inspection to ensure its suitability as a race car before further work commenced - it was 100% perfect. The color is a nice shade of silver with a mild purple flip - looks unusual, great and very striking.InteriorWeight reduction has been a key driver in this build so the interior has been fully stripped, though retaining dashboard shell, electric windows/mirrors and the heater. The air conditioning system has also been removed and replaced with a 306 Rallye aux belt set up. The sound deadening materials have been removed including the boot, footwells and inner cavities - Not a fun or short-winded job but is critical in helping to reduce weight. The headlining, rear shelf, head rests, seats, you name it`s gone. The interior has been painted matt black to help minimise awkward reflections when racing/driving at night and all expose wiring has also been firmly secured out of the way. It looks very tidy inside. An excellent and very supportive Corbeau Forza Sport race seat has been fitted to the driver`s side (though there is a small hole in the seat base), matched to a bespoke adjustable subframe. A Le Mans 4 point harness is fitted and the standard seatbelt as also been retained for ease of use on the road. Bespoke anchor points have been fabricated and welded to the chassis for the harness and again are fully compliant for racing should you wish to take that path with this car (which it would obviously be ideal for).BodyThe Xsara VTS has great torsional rigidity already and is very well designed for racing and rallying - It is one of the most successful cars ever to compete in the World Rally Championship. The car took Sébastien Loeb to 28 rally wins, three consecutive Driver`s Championship titles from 2004 to 2006, and Citro n to three consecutive Manufacturer`s Championship titles in 2003, 2004, and 2005. The front grille and door mirrors have been painted in matt black to match the interior theme and give the car a nice visual edge to make it look more like racer. Obviously stickers/decals can be applied to the buyers taste and this is very easy to do.The body is in good condition with a few minor age-related marks and scratches. There is no rust anywhere and no sign of it starting - modern Citroens were well rust-proofed at the factory from new. The original high rear spoiler is still in place and the rear wiper mechanism has been removed to help save further weight. For the more committed car dieter, more weight could be removed by changing the glass for Perspex, though since this is still a road car too I haven`t gone this far.Engine & TransmissionThe super-durable XU1 J4RS engine in virtually standard tune but has a few modifications to improve breathing. The engine was fully serviced 100 miles ago using fully synthetic oil and all the fluids were replaced. A full cambelt kit was also fitted at the same time as it was due for replacement at 50,000 miles -Not a quick job either but critical for longer-term reliability. Before work started it was tested and showed excellent compressions across all 4 cylinders which is testament to how well the car has been looked after during its life. A race-spec ported & polished throttle body assembly has been fitted to improve airflow and is matched to a K&N induction kit and bigger bore stainless steel rear silencer. An oil temperature gauge is standard on the VTS so allows for easy checking of temperatures on track. These modifications have made the car go a lot faster - best estimate is an extra 20BHP over the standard 167PS, so its running just under 190BHP and weighs around 1 tonne, making a very high power-to-weight ratio for this type of car (Better thana Lotus Elise even!). The engine is a tried-and-tested unit and can take much more hp with relatively little extra cost. With the added modifications on this car it also has the added benefit of sounds truly amazing, though not so loud outside that it will fail the all-important noise tests. Up rated camshafts, carbs, twin throttle-bodies, turbos, or even nitro methane are all avenues the new owner could go down to get more power but it is already very competitive in terms of performance, longevity and economy (and noise - this car sounds truly brilliant now). The clutch and transmission are again very durable and are both in fine condition - no clutch slip or nasty noises.ChassisThe standard Xsara VTS suspension set up is already very good but this car has been upgraded furher with a full brand new adjustable Supersport Coilover suspension system for extra grip, turn-in and agility on both track and road. It`s obviously a stiffer set up than standard but it remains comfortable on the road whilst giving stunning handling. It comes with a full 2 year warranty, too and is adjustable on the car.The Xsara VTS had excellent brakes as standard from new and since the car is now even lighter modifications in this area only need to be mild. New race-spec and high quality Ferodo DS2500 front pads have just been fitted and are joined by new Mintex rear pads. A full set of braided stainless steel hoses have also been fitted to help improve brake performance further. This is a strong set-up and should prove fade-free during racing or track days, helped by the light weight of the car. The ABS has been disconnected to allow more control on-track but the power assisted steering has been retained as it weighs very little.A set of special light weight wheels have been sourced and repainted and are fitted with Toyo T1-R track tyres which are also road legal. These wheels only weight around 4.8 kilo each so have a big effect on the unsprung weight of the car, meaning sharper turn-in and a much more agile feel - they really do transform the drive and will work very well with the new coilover suspension set-up. They have the added benefit of being quite a common size making new tyre replacement a relatively in-expensive exercise. 3 spare wheels are also included which also include tyres. The original 15" Xsara VTS phase 2 alloy wheels have just been painted matt black to match the interior colour scheme and are fitted with good road tyres for going to and from track days / races (All these wheels are shown in the picture included with this advert)OtherThis car is fully track-ready with no work being needed. It would be easy and relatively inexpensive to make it go faster still . Race spec parts plentiful are easy to source as virtually all mechanical parts like brakes, suspension, bushes etc and inter-changeable with 306 GTi-6/Rallye items. It would make a perfect first time track or race car and could also easily be converted into a very competitive rally car. To make the car fully MSA compliant you would just need to add a cage (readily available) cut off switches, MSA harness and fire extinguisher - Circa £1k to do everything. Any trials/inspections of the car would be welcome - it`s been very well prepared. The VTS is extremely quick as standard and now this one is significantly quicker thanks to the improvements mentioned above - it really is the perfect track or race car and needs nothing doing to provide years more happy, fast and fun motoring for years to come.I am based near Heathrow and any inspections would be welcome. the car 2 months ago to drive while my main car was off the road but as that is now repaired this is surplus to requirements.The care is in generally very good condition for its age, inside everything is clean and as it should be, there are a few minor scuff marks on the body work but nothing major, i have tried to show all these in the pictures.Mechanically the car is sound it runs and drives great only done 99350 miles (this can be verified from service history), it has MOT till mid September 2012 and Tax till the end of May 2012. I havent had to do any work to the car since I`ve had it but it does come with plenty of service history, prior to me buying the car it has been well serviced and looked after.I am still using this car while the listing is active so the mileage may increase slightly.The only bad points on the car are:A light scratch on the windscreen (drivers side), i have had this checked and it is legal and will pass the MOT as it is.A scuff mark above the rear number plate (shown in the pictures), there is no damage to the body just to the paintwork. work is perfect. Alloys are unmarked and all tyres are very new with loads of tread. Car has done 124500 miles. But do not be deceived be its slightly high miles. It drives very well, everything feels tight and solid with no knocks, bangs or strange noises coming from suspension, steering or engine. The infamous 110 Hdi engines can go on forever with little sign of wear. They are one of the most reliable, robust engines ever made by mankind. I test drove 2 other lower mileage VTR Hdi`s, one having only done 75000, and this Xsara, accelerated, stopped and generally drove better than both. This car has a full service history, with 11 stamps in the book. Cambelt, water pump and aux belts changed at 9th service- 113360 miles. Plus front discs- pads and fuel-cabin filters. Last seviced at 123930 miles in Feb 2012. I brought this car from a Citroen enthusiast who also owned a Citroen repairs garage in Devon. The Xsara VTR Hdi is a rare, underated sports diesel hot hatch. It shares exactly the same chassis spec and underpinnings as the also underated 167 b.h.p petrol Xsara VTS. (I used to own a VTS). Citroen have worked wonders to engineer suspension-damper settings that provide a great balance between comfortable ride quality, and solid cornering, handling ability, with minimal body roll. Passive rear wheel steering to adds to the cars handling prowess, giving it an almost telepathic ability to go around corners. It really is a wolf in sheeps clothing. On bumpy, testing country B-roads, these Xsaras can keep up with some seriously expensive, high performance cars. Without the drawback of overstiff, bone shattering suspension. And in this diesel Hdi version, a very sensible engine as opposed to an expensive to run petrol engine. In this current climate of overcrowded roads, soaring fuel, insurance and road tax costs, this sort of car makes perfect sense. .. Although the Hdi engine may lack the overall grunt of the petrol VTS, it still produces enough power to make it entertaining, and in the real world, actually feels quicker. There is a mass of torque surge(185 ft lb) on tap in any gear, at any speed. No need for frantic gear changes or max revs to get the best out of it. But this cars party piece is its fantastic fuel consumption. I keep on thinking the fuel gauge has broken as it does not seem to move. The balance between power and fuel consumption is brilliant. I did a 400 mile motorway trip on less than £40, cruising at 55-65 m.p.h. About £18 each way(195 miles). Thats 67-70 m.p.g. Even at a hasty 75-85 m.p.h this car still does 60 m.p.g.
